This study was initiated to determine whether the installation of marine renewable energy devicesincluding wave, tidal and offshore windmight not only generate power but also inhibit damage to, or destruction of, sea defenses. Focusing on Bridgwater Bay in Somerset, this study was commissioned to find if these devices could be used to protect vulnerable areas of the coastline, as well as to examine whether offshore renewable energy generators could be incorporated into offshore breakwaters, helping to protect low-lying coastal areas which are vulnerable to flooding. Includes 115 figures and tables and 26 chapters.
